The Associate Editor (English) is responsible for the English text of the company’s publications, including but not limited to writing, translating, copy editing and proofreading. He/she is also responsible for ensuring quality of text, fact checking and ensuring deadlines are met. He/she may assist the Senior Editors, Managing Editor and Editorial Director in managing other projects.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

– Write, translate (Spanish to English), copy edit and proofread (in English) articles and books as assigned.

– Be responsible for the research on all articles written, ensuring the accuracy of all information contained in the article. Articles should present a new and fresh approach on any given topic.

– Create captivating titles, cover lines and Table of Contents text for publications.
Fact-check articles written by freelancers.

– Multi-task: Work on more than one project at a time.

– Work well in a team environment, alongside Graphic Designers, Photographers, Production, Sales and other editors.
Prioritize workload to ensure all deadlines are met.

– Participate actively in recommending potential articles/ideas for publication, as well as suggestions for how to improve workflow, quality and productivity.

– The Associate Editor may be assigned an area of responsibility by the Editors (selected magazines, selected articles, topics or sections). The Associate Editor must therefore be fully responsible for any article or text published by the company in that area, from its inception to writing, and in terms of factual and linguistic accuracy, as well as photos.

– Establish contacts with freelance writers/translators as a way to contribute to the company’s freelancer pool.
Actively participate in all editorial and other production-related meetings.

– Attend seminars and events that will keep him/her updated as to new publishing (style, translating, copy editing) issues in the field.
Follow and actively enrich the company’s style guidelines (English) for its publications.

– Any other duties or tasks as assigned by the Senior Editors, Managing Editor or Editorial Director.

Responsibilities include:

– Copy edit, proofread, fact check, translate (Spanish to English) and ensure quality of English text for HCP publications.
Assist senior editors by assigning and/or reviewing editorial content, working with the designers, communicating with translators and clients, working on photo research and checking printer proofs.

– Oversee special projects and assigned publications to ensure we meet all production deadlines.

– Be fully responsible for assigned projects and oversee any articles or text published for that section, from its inception to writing, and in terms of factual and linguistic accuracy, as well as photos.

-Contribute to our publications with occasional feature articles, most of which are travel related.

– Be responsible for the research on all articles written, ensuring the accuracy of all information contained in the article. Articles should present a new and fresh approach on any given topic.

– Create captivating titles, cover lines and table of contents text for publications as needed.- Work on updating text in sales rate cards and media kits for various books.

– Multitask and prioritize workload to ensure all deadlines are met.

– Follow and actively enrich the company’s style guidelines (English) for its publications.

Requirements:

– Bachelor’s degree required preferably in English or Communications.
– Must be able to communicate well in both English and Spanish.
– English writing and copyediting, fact checking and translating from Spanish to English.
– Should have at least five years of previous editing and translating experience in publishing.
– Must be proficient in Word, Excel and InCopy.
– Some travel (USA and international) required.
